Text:
From the day Pope Benedict resigned, much of the media attention focused on those who treated the selection of a new pope as somewhat of a lobbying event, in hopes that a new pope could somehow not be so ardently pro-life.  Pope Francis may have subtly squelched any consideration of such. On his first full day as pope, Francis found a mother carrying an unborn child for his first individual moment of prayer and blessing.

A Florida Republican, considered a possible 2016 presidential candidate, directly took on abortion and the so-called war on women.  Senator Marco Rubio did not mince words saying, “science has proven that life begins at conception.”

In other pro-life news, the trial of Kermit Gosnell gets underway Monday with the prosecution showing the jury evidence from his gruesome Philadelphia abortion business.
Tom Monahan, the founder of Domino’s Pizza, won a preliminary injunction against the HHS mandate protecting his property management firm from participation in a ‘gravely immoral’ practice.
A woman documenting the fourth botched abortion in recent weeks at a Wilmington Planned Parenthood abortion business was attacked by someone coming from the abortion clinic.  Police are investigating and a suspect remains at large.

Text:
The election of a new Pope apparently will set up an interesting meeting between the new Pope Francis, formerly Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina, and Vice President Joe Biden, who finds no conflict between his professed Catholic faith and his advocacy of abortion, something Pope Francis has called the “Death Penalty for the Unborn”.

As a leader of Argentinian Catholics, Bergoglio helped steer the church away from essentially Marxism in the form of liberation theology. Liberation theology happens to be a linchpin in the thinking of Catholics who accept abortion as something moral.  He has been seen as a ‘compassionate conservative’ and has shown an aptitude in bridging large philosophical divides.  In Argentina he worked with Catholics and other Christians of Eastern traditions and even his name Francis, chosen in honor of the 11th century Catholic Saint, is an interesting choice for a Jesuit intellectual.

Abby Johnson is taking heat from the abortion industry for her work in helping abortion clinic workers do what she did and quit their jobs.  She calls her work, “And Then There Were None”.

In other news, a party line vote in the U.S. Senate quickly sank the hopes of Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and rejected his attempt to defund ObamaCare for this fiscal year. And a healthy baby boy has been born after another fascinating heart surgery on the child at 23-weeks gestation.

Text:
The U.S. Senate is scheduled to take up the continuing resolution to fund the federal government for the remainder of the fiscal year.  When it does, newly elected pro-life Senator Ted Cruz of Texas says he is prepared to use any procedural means available to him to force an up or down vote on defunding ObamaCare for the remainder of the fiscal year.

The New York Times is leading a mainstream media charge and they are accusing the Holy See, the Vatican, and pro-life allies of obstructionism.  The battle is at the United Nations and seems to be over a phrase, “inherent right to life”.  That phrase is something the US and European Union nations are trying to strip from United Nations documents like the UN charter and the Universal Declaration on human rights.  Somehow the word “obstructionism” misses the point.

Thomas Beckwith has filed the 50th lawsuit against the HHS mandate requiring employers to pay for government-sponsored interdiction of pregnancy.  What makes his action interesting is that Beckwith’s ancestors came to America in the 1600-hundreds to escape religious persecution and also fought in the Revolutionary war.  The Thomas More Law Center filed the lawsuit in a Florida federal district court.

Text:
The Maryland Board of Physicians is now on record as conducting a preliminary investigation into abortionist LeRoy Carhart who presided over a failed abortion that killed woman after she apparently gave up trying to contact her doctor and went to a hospital emergency room.  The investigation could take six months.
A letter demanding action from Maryland legislators has led to the discovery of another failed abortion ending in the death of the mother, this one in Baltimore.  Another Maryland agency has suspended licenses of three surgical abortion clinics affiliated with abortion business owner Stephen Chase Brigham, apparently including this Baltimore abortion business.

The Health Care Conscience Rights Act is gaining support.  The bill, introduced earlier this month by 66 members of the U.S. House, would essentially nullify the HHS rule written under the authority of ObamaCare which requires most any employer to provide pretty much anything to interdict pregnancy, even contraceptive drugs that cause abortions.  The bishop overseeing the US Catholic bishops’ pro-life efforts is urging Congress to support the bill.

40 Days for Life has saved well over 300 babies from abortion over the last few weeks.  The internationally coordinated effort of prayer and vigil at abortion clinics runs through March 24.

Text:
When radicalized proponents of abortion speak of violence against women to support their world view that abortion protects women, they rely on a study from a World Bank report originally released nearly twenty years ago.  A report at LifeNews on the UN Commission on the Status of Women tries to offer a balanced look at why so many statistics used by abortion advocates are at least misleading.  Another report laments how many gathering at the UN last week ignored the violence done to women in abortion.

The UN Commission on the Status of Women heard repeatedly from Reggie Littlejohn last week on the issue of gender selection abortions and government policies that promote such gendercide.  In China, where much of her work is done, a preference for sons coupled with China’s one child policy creates a gender imbalance driving human trafficking and sex slavery.

In other news… Excluding weekends and holidays, South Dakota’s new abortion waiting period of 72 hours makes it the longest waiting period for an abortion in the nation.  And New Hampshire is considering a bill redefining hydration and nutrition and state law that could okay the gruesome process of dehydrating disabled patients to death.

Text:
The horrific case involving Kermit Gosnell and eight counts of murder related to abortion will not have any potential jurors who profess being pro-life.  Six potential jurors who expressed religious, ethical or moral qualms about abortion or the death penalty have been dismissed.

72 members of Congress are asking the Government Accountability Office for information about government money possibly being funneled to Planned Parenthood.  This request follows up on a 2010 GAO report on Planned Parenthood funding that raised more questions than it answered.

The Fourth Circuit Court is quickly becoming one of the next battle grounds against the HHS mandate.  A new amicus brief by a broad range of religious and political legal groups says that ObamaCare’s employer mandate has become the “bludgeon” with which the government feels empowered to cripple the consciences of employers who may take religious exception to paying for the fuzzy collection of contraceptive agents including abortifacient drugs.

Other stories at LifeNews include details of another botched abortion that a Colorado abortion business may be trying to hide, and a UN agreement on violence against women may be scuttled because some member nations are refusing the agenda of abortion advocates.

Text:
Legislators in Maryland are asking why the abortion clinic is still open that killed a woman last month in a dangerous late-term botched abortion.  Not only are they questioning why LeRoy Carhart’s Germantown abortion business was not shut down immediately, they are questioning why a previous complaint from last November did not prompt an investigation and inspection of the clinic before the death of Jennifer Morbelli.  They ask what triggers a license suspension to protect the public if not a patient’s death.

The new Continuing Resolution designed to relieve automatic federal budget cuts required by law does not include the conscience protections against the Obama administrations HHS mandate for which pro-life advocates were hoping.  Pro-life focus now turns to the Healthcare Conscience Rights Act for relief from the HHS-ObamaCare rules.

Court rulings allow for states to restrict abortion and while new legislation would add Texas to the list of states that restrict abortion by the pain inflicted during an abortion, Arkansas legislators, overriding a governor’s veto passed a law Wednesday restricting abortions to the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.  If a heartbeat is detected, abortion is banned in Arkansas.

Text:
Members of Congress, with the backing of major pro-life groups, are introduced the Health Care Conscience Rights Act, to stop the Obama administration’s assault on pro-life religious freedom via the HHS mandate. This bold act may be the last chance for Congress to take action to mitigate the conscience problems associated with President Barack Obama’s contraceptive and abortifacient mandate.

Going through the grand jury report for the murder trial of Kermit Gosnell reads like a horror movie.  Some of the more mundane items: investigators say Gosnell distributed or wrote prescriptions for addictive drugs, something that would’ve garnered Gosnell hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.  Late-term abortions, which often failed and delivered premature but live births presented the situations and actions which ultimately led to the murder charges against the abortionist.

In other news, two more abortion centers have closed in Michigan after charges of illegal disposal and an abortion practitioner being sued for the death of a woman in a failed abortion.  And the Arkansas 12 week abortion ban continues to make news as that state’s Senate has voted to override their governor’s veto.  Some people in pro-life circles fear the Arkansas ban, if rejected by courts, could entrench Roe V Wade.

Text:
The complicated, gruesome case of Kermit Gosnell got underway in Philadelphia Monday with three jurors being selected.  While there are rumors of Gosnell trying to negotiate a better deal with prosecutors, he faces eight murder counts.  The story is loaded with tragic details of abortions botched, squalid conditions in his clinic, and multiple defendants who worked with Gosnell, some of whom had no medical background.

Members of Congress are working on a new major bill to stop the White House assault on pro-life religious freedom under the HHS mandate.  The Health Care Conscience Rights Act would take the focus off Kathleen Sibelius for drafting the rules creating the mandate and put them on legislators who vote for or against this new bill.

The federal budget sequester seemingly has had no effect on Health and Human Services.  On the first afternoon of the President’s doomsday, the agency was so productive it pumped out more than 700 new pages of ObamaCare regulations.  Buried in those pages is a plan designed to directly fund abortion using the laws of individual states to circumvent the Hyde amendment.  And another story at LifeNews dot com provides another likely link between abortion and a 90% increase in breast cancer.

Jury selection is to begin Monday in the Philadelphia murder case against abortionist Kermit Gosnell, whose squalid “house of horrors” abortion clinic and callus, almost flippant attitude toward his macabre abortion practices shocked the nation.  Troy Newman of Operation Rescue says, “the Gosnell case is a watershed moment for the issue of abortion.” He says the discovery of Gosnell’s practices shed light on an abortion industry run amok.

Reggie Littlejohn of Women’s Rights without Frontiers is countering rumors that China’s one child policy might be reviewed.  She says instead that the Communist Party there is simply considering moving the policy’s administration from China’s Family Planning Agency into the Ministry of Health.

40 Days for Life is the vigil outside abortion clinics and prayer around the world to bring an end to abortion.  There may not be major networks covering this story yet, however, a local TV station in Montana covered the 40 Days for Life campaign in Livingston.  The story quoted one pro-life activist as saying that they are always praying for the staff of the abortion business, and noted that small numbers of pro-life demonstrators are nevertheless always outside the local abortion business there.
