The questioning in the Gosnell murder trial is pointing to inconsistent arguments for abortion. With a re-created abortion clinic displayed before jurors’ eyes, the court is witnessing seemingly every question about the beginning of life and viability and the rights of vulnerable babies and the care of mothers. Thursday, an anesthesiologist testified that the anesthesia given to one woman who died was sufficient to stop her breathing and put her into a coma.
The more you look at the HHS mandate, the more you find tremendous problems. The nation’s Catholic bishops took a new comprehensive look at the mandate and their General Counsel says new revisions of the contraceptive mandate are an “unprecedented violation of religious liberty” and must be changed.
In other news, a courageous Portland schoolteacher was given the boot from Benson high school. Bill Diss has both attained great notoriety for his teaching skill and has been given years of grief for his personal pro-life activism in the Rose City. A new study shows abortion can lead to risk of heart disease and stroke. And 37 of 42 abortion clinics in Texas would close under a new bill that seeks to apply minimum standards to such surgical facilities.

The lead prosecutor on Monday told a Philadelphia court what the Kermit Gosnell murder trial is and what it is not about. He said the case has less to do with abortion than it does with the fact that Kermit Gosnell is a killer who took the lives of newly born babies. Between a female patient and seven newborn infants, Gosnell is charged with more than 30 criminal counts.
Religious people with internal moral conflicts tend to get clumsy. Joe Biden says that the Catholic Church has always debated within itself over whether abortion was always or intrinsically wrong. His own bishop immediately reproved him and corrected that statement. Now comes news that in a conversation with a foreign head of state, Biden inferred that he simply must attend a mass for Pope Francis or lose his soul.
Meanwhile, leading the delegation from the US House of Representatives, speaker John Boehner has chosen New Jersey Representative Chris Smith, a pro-life champion.
40 Days for Life has now seen 423 babies saved from abortion in the last 33 days. And one abortion clinic after years of such prayer and vigil has said it will not renew its lease.

Jury selection is to begin Monday in the Philadelphia murder case against abortionist Kermit Gosnell, whose squalid “house of horrors” abortion clinic and callus, almost flippant attitude toward his macabre abortion practices shocked the nation. Troy Newman of Operation Rescue says, “the Gosnell case is a watershed moment for the issue of abortion.” He says the discovery of Gosnell’s practices shed light on an abortion industry run amok.
Reggie Littlejohn of Women’s Rights without Frontiers is countering rumors that China’s one child policy might be reviewed. She says instead that the Communist Party there is simply considering moving the policy’s administration from China’s Family Planning Agency into the Ministry of Health.
40 Days for Life is the vigil outside abortion clinics and prayer around the world to bring an end to abortion. There may not be major networks covering this story yet, however, a local TV station in Montana covered the 40 Days for Life campaign in Livingston. The story quoted one pro-life activist as saying that they are always praying for the staff of the abortion business, and noted that small numbers of pro-life demonstrators are nevertheless always outside the local abortion business there.

Visit a Hobby Lobby craft store and listen to the discreet music played in the background. Songs like, “Jesus Loves Me This I Know”, “Amazing Grace”, and even instrumental renditions of more recent titles discretely say that this is a store with distinctly Christian values. The store is currently avoiding million-dollar daily fines after losing the first round in its fight against the HHS mandate and is now being joined by groups like Americans United for Life in broadening Hobby Lobby’s court battle.
The parents of the 16-year-old expectant mom have been trying to force her to have an abortion. It took a lawsuit and a court appearance, but the parents have relented.
After only a few days into its 40 Days for Life campaign, organizers say nearly 6 dozen babies have already been saved from abortion. The campaign of personal dedication and prayer and vigil at abortion clinics runs through March 24th.
The Montalvo family of Houston wanted a baby girl. Instead, without any use of fertility treatment, they hit odds in the neighborhood of one in 70 million and came home from the hospital last week with two sets of identical twins-all boys-born on Valentine’s Day.

Operation Rescue is speaking out in the case of the New York woman who died in Maryland in a botched late-term abortion. They say if the Maryland hospital does not file a complaint with the state medical board, they will file suit in order to bring medical scrutiny to the work of abortionist Doctor LeRoy Carhart. There is an ongoing criminal investigation by the state attorney general in Maryland related to Carhart’s operation in that state.
As the next 40 Days for Life gets underway, one prayer demonstration in Greensboro North Carolina had to be canceled because the abortion business, faced with another round of legal prayer and vigil outside their doors, closed their doors permanently. ||
Lima Ohio was the site of another recent abortion clinic closing.
A recent poll of New York voters should be giving its governor headaches. Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York wants to get rid of all pro-life laws in his state and promote late-term abortions, so Cuomo has proposed to the legislature a so-called “Reproductive Choice Act”. The in-depth McLaughlin poll paid for by the Chiaroscuro Foundation shows support for the governor’s position well below 20 percent, over 60 percent strongly disagreed with his ideas.

While local officials investigate the death of Jennifer McKenna Morbelli, the Maryland Attorney General’s office has opened an investigation into late-term abortion practitioner LeRoy Carhart whose botched abortion killed the 29-year-old teacher last week. Another woman, Christin Gilbert, died eight years ago in Kansas after another botched abortion by LeRoy Carhart.
Medical personnel at New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital were being forced to take part in abortions before ADF attorneys took their case. A newly completed HHS investigation has resulted in policy and procedure changes to ensure that medical personnel are not forced to participate in abortions.
The Elliot Institute says at least half of all abortions are coerced. Reinforcing that statistic is a story from Texas where a pregnant teenager who wants to keep her child is suing her parents to stop them from making her have an abortion.
40 Days for Life kicks off Wednesday. Abortion clinics generally have a distinct downturn in business when people are outside their businesses praying. One Planned Parenthood in Arizona plans to extend its hours 40%.

On the occasion of the president’s inauguration to a second term, pro-life groups say President Obama brings a stark contrast to a second term: a large pro-abortion record and a small approval rating. Gallup polling finds the president’s first-term approval rating is the lowest of any post-World War II president.
The president’s motorcade was forced to confront pictures of babies victimized by abortion. The exposure of graphic images was arranged by Created Equal.
On the 40th anniversary of the Roe V Wade decision legalizing all abortion, pro-lifers can celebrate the closure of 1500 abortion clinics over the past 22 years. There were nearly 2200 abortion clinics in 1991; now there are less than 700 and that number is falling.
Nevertheless, a St. Louis Planned Parenthood abortion business had its fourth botched abortion in recent weeks. As pro-life advocates tried to document the injuries, clinic staffers attempted to conceal matters.
Over the weekend, what has been billed as the largest pro-life rally in the history of Ireland took place as more than 30,000 pro-life people gathered to hold political leaders accountable for pledging to oppose abortion.
